The production areas of Chinese tea are mainly distributed in the four major tea regions, including Jiangnan tea region, Jiangbei tea region, Southwest tea region, and South China tea region.
Jiangnan Tea Region: located in the southern part of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China, including provinces such as Zhejiang, Hunan, Jiangxi, as well as southern Anhui, southern Jiangsu, and southern Hubei. It is the main tea producing area in China, with an annual output accounting for about two-thirds of the total national output. This area mainly produces green tea, black tea, black tea, scented tea and various special famous teas, such as West Lake Longjing Tea, Mount Huangshan Maofeng Tea, Dongting Biluochun Tea, Junshan Silver Needle Tea, Lushan Cloud and Fog Tea, etc.
Jiangbei Tea Area: mainly distributed in provinces such as Henan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Shandong, as well as northern Anhui, northern Jiangsu, and northern Hubei, mainly producing green tea.
Southwest tea regions: including Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces and the southeast of Xizang Autonomous Region, mainly produce black tea, green tea, Tuo tea, compact tea (brick tea) and Pu'er tea.
South China Tea Region: covering Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, and Hainan, mainly producing black tea, oolong tea, flower tea, and white tea.
In addition to the above four tea regions, there are many famous tea producing areas in China, such as Biluochun in Jiangsu, Wuyi Rock Tea and Tieguanyin in Fujian, Pu'er Tea in Yunnan, and Maofeng in Mount Huangshan Mountain in Anhui. These areas produce tea with unique flavor and quality because of their unique climate conditions and planting technology.
